01:44 am - 12 of 12
|
I wanted to do this already the last two months but I always missed the 12th ... I found this idea on some blog I stumbled over by accident. You are supposed to make 12 photos on the 12th of each month. The whole idea started here
Actually it was a bit of a boring day, and I forgot again that it was the 12th until afternoon ... ( 12 of 12 )

17:28 pm - no pumpkins on big pumpkin day???
|
How stupid is that? We decided to do trick and treat yesterday and went to HEB to get some pumpkins and candy and what happened? NO FUCKING PUMPKINS THERE!!!! They used to have a huge display in front of the store the whole time and yesterday it was gone. Not picked empty just gone! For crying out loud, it is pumpkin season! We also planed to used some for cake and pickeling. They better have some back next week. *shakes fist angry* And then we saw how fricking expensive pre-packed candy is and decided that we cannot afford it this year and gave up on that plan as well.
When we came home, we "blinded" our front window and made Einstein his costume. He went as a metal guitarist very cool (even though he did not care much about it but as you maybe know by now, our pets are not allowed to have dignity)
( behold the METALSTEIN )
And as we never got to see Zombie Strippers in theater, we bought the dvd yesterday instead. HA, zombies and strippers, I cannot wait to watch it tonight!

17:22 pm - red or black?
|
I had the cleaning bug last week and cleaned half of the house in one afternoon, now I am looking forward if the bug visits me again so that I can clean up the other half this week ;-) I really need to make pictures so that you guys can finally see how we are living now (my family does not know it either yet ...) We also had planed to decorate the house for halloween but did not do that (yet) as that would also mean that we might have to open the door for trick and treaters. I guess we will decide on that on Thursday. As we still have to make a trip to the outlet mall (I also had a shopping bug and bought some new clothes but I have to return with one shirt which has the wrong size and still the security thing attached - *waves to Nici: you are not alone*) and then we can see what the Halloween store has to offer.
And I need opnion ( red or black )
Now I am craving more raisin bread. We made some last night but as always it did not last very long ... fresh raisin bread out of the oven is just too good to not to eat immedatly :-)

Your result for What Your Taste in Art Says About You Test... Extroverted, Progressive, and Intelligent8 Cubist, -13 Islamic, -9 Ukiyo-e, -14 Impressionist, 0 Abstract and -15 Renaissance!
Cubism was a 20th century avant-garde movement, pioneered by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. It revolutionized European art and inspired changes in music and literature. The first branch of cubism, known as Analytic Cubism. It was both radical and influential as a short but highly significant art movement between 1908 and 1911 mainly in France. In its second phase, Synthetic Cubism, (using synthetic materials in the art) the movement spread and remained vital until around 1919. People that chose Cubist paintings as their favorite art form tend to be very individualized people. They are more extroverted and less afraid of speaking their opinions then other people. They tend to be progressive and are very forward thinking. As the cubist painting is like looking into a shattered mirror where you can see different angles of the images, the people that prefer these paintings like looking at all angles of a problem. These people are intelligent and they are the transformers of our generation. They look beyond what is seen into what things could become. They are ready to leave the ideas of the past behind and look at what the future has to offer. Take What Your Taste in Art Says About You Test at HelloQuizzy

01:07 am - of angel and devil duckies
|
I took a break from my current crochet project (a doily from the 1930s) as I needed to finish something. Doing filet is a lot of fun but sometimes you need to finish something in one night just for the heck for it. :-) So I made a potholder with duckies. And as I could not find any patterns for duckies online, I had to come up with my own design. Josh thought a plain duckie looks boring so I made it into a devil and an angel duckie. ( behold the devil and the angel )
I also passed my driver lisence test today. After living here nearly for two years, I finally took it. It is really hard to find motivation for doing it when you have your lisence already for 10 years. And sadly Texas is one of those states which is not recognizing my German one - meh.
Oki, I need something sweet. Ta ta

Wow - is it really 18 years ago that Germany got reunited and 19 years since the wall fell? (Not yet, the wall fell in November.) I am still getting goosepimps when I see pictures from those days. Well, Happy Birthday Germany, now let us show the world that you are really a grown up child. :-)

17:09 pm - cookies and bags
|
I made cookies the other night, with our super cool Halloween forms (which we bought last spring at the Crate n Barrel outlet for five bucks). They were so super yummy that we already ate them all ... bad us :-) ( COOKIES!!! )
I also finally finished a bag I was working on for a couple of months now. Well, it is not really done yet, I thought I will put some liner and support in it. Now the only question is what I should use for support, first I thought cardboard but that will wear out pretty quickly and it cannot get wet. The bag is full of errors, well actually only the fillet piece as that was my first try ever to crochet a piece like that (that is also the reason why it is slightly shorter than it should be) and I had especially troubles with the edging. I started now another fillet piece and that one is working much better, I guess I will see how the finished piece will look like. ( baggie baggie bat bat )
Does anyone know where I can buy Pelikan colours in the US? I am looking for good watercolours but I cannot find any so I thought I stay with what I know but know I have trouble finding places who sell Pelikan. (Or I have to write my parents that they send me a carepackage with mostly magenta and zinober and china white .... *g*)

15:43 pm - lame commercial
|
First of all: Is the corn industrie getting scared? Or how do you explain those ads where they say that High Fructose Corn Syrup is not worse than sugar? It is really lame. "You want to eat that? It has HFCS in it!" -Yeah, so what? "Don't you know what they are saying?" -What do they say? "That erm, erm, erm hmm ...."
Dear Corn industry - HFCS _is_ bad for you, or do you think I gained 10 kg when I moved to the US out of nowhere? And that I lost most of it again after cutting HFCS out of my diet is just a coincident?
Lame lame lame
Second lame ad: The new windows "I am a PC" one. Not that they only took a (lame) idea from apple and copied it, no, they also say that every PC is running windoof, otherwise it is not a PC. Josh and I had a few raised eyebrows with that, and we came up with an ad of our own:

(hahaha, yeah I know, we look silly :-))

00:26 am - truck driver hate
|
gosh I hate truck drivers! Did you notice that those drivers which are the most reckless ones never have a "How do I drive? Call: 123 - 456 - 7890" sticker on it? I wonder why .... And they are at least always 10 - 15 miles above their speed limit! And do they get ever a ticket? I at least never saw one being pulled over, but we do because our inspection was over due.
Also a warning for the case if you should ever plan to move to San Marcos: Never rent with Williamson Company. They totally screwed us with our saftey deposit check. We had to put down around 700 when we moved in and we did not even got half of it back. So we went in there and complaint, and now nearly a month later we got 70 bucks more ... and I still think that we should have got at least 50 more back. They also never came to fix the bathtub which had a crack and was covered with duckttape. They knew about that since last December. I bet if we would have hold back rent they would have come in no time to fix it.
Well, anyway, we know that we will have never ever again any buisness with them. And we have new things to worry about, like our intense high electricity bill which is puzzling at the monent.

20:39 pm - stupid time warner
|
Our dvr cut off yesterday the last five minutes of house - pfffffft - stupid time warner cable. When I went to imdb right now to see what we missed in those five minutes I saw that we were not the only ones whose dvr cut off the end ...
Pups was funny last night. When we put him to bed and he got his treat, he started to digg in his pillow and scratching on the gate (he sleeps in a cradle (that's how I call the crade)) and was all unhappy. We thought he was just hyper and pulled the blanket over the gate and turned out the light and went back to the living room. Five minutes later he barked very loud, so we went back in opened the door and he sniffed very eagerly at one edge of his cardle. We lifted it up and - taadaa - there was a piece of his treat under it. He got it was all happy and after we went out one more time for good night pee, he hopped in his bed and ended his day.
By the way, if you have wondered if we were effected by Ike, we weren't. We did not even had rain, just a little thunderstorm on Saturday night. The temperature "dropped" from 38°C (100°F) to 30°C (86°F) but who knows how long those "low" temperatures will last ... ;-)

19:06 pm - good German housewive
|
I either should not clean the windows so good or put some stickers on them. Since we took down the screens and I cleaned the windows tons of hummingbirds are flying in them. Today one crashed so badly that it was all dazzeled on the ground outside and I only found it by accident because I had to wash out an ant invested cat bowl under the outdoor faucet. (I heard a *dang* sound on the window but saw then also another hummingbird flying right in front of the window again so I did not give it any thoughts, I came outside maybe 45 minutes later.) The poor thing was on its back not moving and first I thought it was dead but then I saw the little chest moving, so I carefully tried lift it up. Small peep peep from the little bird but as soon as it noticed that it could move its wings freely again it darted off. Silly bird!!! We also should get a hummingbird feeder. Charlie and Smokey seem to enjoy their own wildlife tv.

13:32 pm - finally a sign of life
|
Wow, we moved now a little bit over a month ago and this is the first time I am in the mood to update here ... shame on me! Before I start a real update, I wanted to congratulate my friend Ariane, who came in 6th in the olympics in whitewater kayak. She did not even know that she made the final until 10 minutes before she had to start, a 6th place is awesome! Sadly stupid US tv did not show anything, or at least I could not find it. Well, I will wait until Ari wil post some pictures then :-)
So, let's talk about the move. It actually went quite smoothly. We got the keys on the 15th and started to bring some boxes over the same day. We did a lot of little moving for the next week, as power was not turned on until the 21st. Josh's parents came to help with the big stuff on the 25th and we managed to get all the big things out on that Saturday. The next couple of days we went back to the old place to get the rest of the nick nack and to clean up so that we could give the key back on the 31st. It is really not nice to move during summer, no, no, no. And it is amazing how much nick nack we have. Well, now we are living in suburbia, have to keep the lawn alive (har har har - if the owner would know how bad we are about that, she would not have rented the house to us :-)) and are the "freaks" of the neighbourhood. We still have plenty of boxes to unpack, mostly books for which we do not have a shelves yet and kitchen stuff for which we have to figure out how we can store them best in those very deep shelves. I will take pictures at some point, as I cannot wait to show off our "Pollock" room :-)
We love that we have so many windows now. When we cleaned out the old house we realized how dark it actually was in there, we used to have on lights basically the whole day, now we turn them on at night. Only downside, this house has an alarm system which was supposed to be switched off, but it isn't. Now once a day it is beeping which is irritating us and the dog, and our landlord is not replying to our emails. Same goes with the dishwasher. It is clogged and as we did not get any help, we decided now that we will get a new one and store the old one in the garage. (Did I tell, we have a garage!!!)
And I also managed to jam the disposal, and I also managed to repair it myself!!! (Thank you Ikea for providing us with the right wrenches!!!)
I bet there is tons of more things I wanted to talk about but I cannot think about them right now. Here was my sign that I am still alive and kicking and now I am making me tea, my husband coffee and for the both of us waffles from scratch. :-)

00:06 am - Kungfu Panda & Futurama and the beast with the billion backs
|
Why did no one tell me that the new Futurama movie is out? Well, Adult Swim did, the day it came out. Next day we went to the store and got it and watched it the same day. I think I like it even better then the first one. Hard to say, I need to watch it again to make up my mind. But so far I enjoyed it a lot.
Yesterday we went to watch Kungu Fu Panda, finally after we always planed it for days but we never found the time for doing it. Very cute movie!!! With a lot of chuckles and laughters.
What else did we do the last couple of days since our a/c accident? We went house hunting, which is very exhausting when you have to do it in this heat in a car without aircondition. Time to pack our things now, as we did not renew our lease and have to be out of here end of July. Meh - moving once again in one of the hottest months here ... even though we have August temperature already, maybe we are lucky and July and August will be exceptional cool?
I hate our internet, it is always going off and we do not know why ... I so want to move!!! Did I mention already that our toilett is now broken as well? We are becoming experts in bathroom plumbing ... yesterday we replaced the fill valve and the flapper but the toilette is still running (at least now it is filling up again, something it did not do before, the last couple of days we had to fill the toilett with the shower hose), which means that we have now to replace the other valve ...
Meh, enough ranting, Josh said something about watching a movie, that sounds good, let us see what we have and then we watch. Talk to youy guys later :-)

12:14 pm - water splish splash
|
I just dumped the water we caught from last night when we found the reason until the plumber came and it was roughly around 3 gallons (a little bit over 11 liters). Thinking about it, it means that in the last few days there must have at least 20 gallons (75.7 liters) running out there under the floor ... that is insane!!! Thinking about that that is all water coming out of the air! (Yeah the last couple days were not only insanly hot but also insanly humid.)
Good news though, when we picked up the towls right now, the carpet was nearly dry again! So knock on wood that that was really the problem and we can relax a bit. But still we need to see people for a new place...

11:38 am - happy happy joy joy
|
Our bedroom is flooded!!! Thursday night, Josh stepped into the bedroom and came out immediatly and asked why it was wet in the doorway. I shrugged and said I have no idea but came to have a look myself. If you stepped on the carpet, it was soaking wet, so we lifted up the "upper carpet" (we put green industrial like carpet over the original one) and saw that there was a huge puddle of water under it. First we thought it was the washing machine leaking as we ran it shortly before, but it could also have been the waterheater ... as it was late already, we only went out to get a exactor (sp?) knife to cut the green carpet away, rescued our bookshelfs to the study and put towls on top of it. Friday it first seemed as if it would get less, but by night and after changing the towls a couple of times, we decided that it is time to call the landlord, who first did not really wanted to believe us. ("A waterpuddle in the middle of the room? You are sure it is not coming from the wall, or that you spilled anything?") As it was again after hours, she said she will send someone out Saturday morning and that we should put more towls over it. After that we talked to Josh's mom and she and his dad came up with the suggestion that it might be the a/c, as they had a simmilar problem a couple of days ago. So we had a look under the a/c and ... voilá, standing water and dripping from there. We put a bowl under it and it filled very quickly up, so we turned the a/c down a bit. This morning then the plumber came and when we explaint the problem to him and said he might have an idea what it is, the outside pipe from the a/c might have been clogged. He went outside and hosed it out and a huge pile of bugs and other stuff came out and whoops, the a/c unit stopped dripping! So yeah, we hope that this was the real problem and not that some pipe of the unit is broken. And the plumber gave us a tip to hose the outside pipe frequently as bugs love to crawl in there and it is like a vaccumcleaner, which means a lot of things getting sucked in. Cleaning it out can save us a lot of money on our utility bill (which is always insanly high.). Carpet is still wet though, but we hope that we can get it dry with towls. This was already the thrid water damagde in 6 month here, the second major one. Time to move out!!!!
Something totally different, funny quotes we had the other days: Nele: "I try to pepper up our marriage but my husband is salting it down!" (Which threw Josh into a laughing fit :-))
Josh:"I wish there would be a tool to get rid of morning wood." Nele: "There is, they call it hand."

00:14 am - Humppa
|
Hehehe that is too funny. Josh told me the other day about this really cool humppa band he found and who is very popular with Open BSD people. I was all like, oh, I also know a humppa band, I even saw them live once back in Schwerte. They were funny as they were swearing at the audience in finnish and as the audience could not understand them were cheering and thought that the band said something cool. Turns out ... we were talking about the same band!!! Eläkeläiset to be exactly. I had forgotten about them but a couple month ago I was remembering them for some odd reasons and looked them up again. Now they are super successful (well, as far as you can be as a humppa band *g*) and I doubt that they would play anymore in the Rattenloch in Schwerte.
On the 3.14159 front: he is doing great. He is getting a real handfull. His wound got stiches last Monday (haha, he was really funny while being on drugs) and now we let him out for a few hours every day so that he can get used to the house, to the other animals and to us. He likes the house, and he like the other animals but he is still scared of us, or of our sudden movements. But sadly the other cats do not seem to care much about him, and even Einstein is carefull around him, even though he cornered the poor Pi in the kitchen today which Pi did not like at all.
Today we went to the Austin Reptile Expo, but we were not so impressed. It was tiny and way too crowded and they did not had the snakes we were looking for (Emerald Tree Boas) but tons of ball pythons. They had Green Tree Pythons and Amazon Tree Boas but we set our heart now to the Emeralds so we have to look where we might get one. We met the owner of "our" health food store there as well. When he saw us checking out the poster at his store door, he asked us if we would have reptiles and after Josh told him that we do, he was all excited and talked about his snakes and that he is breeding himself. So we met him at his booth today and had a fun chat, he was amazed that I like reptiles as his wife does not really like his snake collection and he told us that a lot of guys stand in front of the booths and call their moms or girlfriends and try to get their ok for getting a snake and very often it is not successful. :-)
Well, as we didn't get a snake, we went to Ikea instead as it was right next door (more or less) and got silverware and other kitchen things. We were good and did not buy any things we do not need (besides this huge toy shark ... which is so incredible soft ...).
And tomorrow I will do nothing but eating orange cranberrie muffins and play Touch Detective 2 1/2 on my DS :-)
